About the Poem
I find nothing more relaxing than sitting on the bank of the Mississippi River with rod in hand, visiting with friends, waiting for granddaddy catfish to come along.

On the banks of the Mighty Muddy Just me and my fishing buddy. The current carries the night crawler To just the right spot in the murky water. Waiting, waiting, waiting, Just sitting, watching. There is a bobble! Don't jerk the hook! Got to play it by the book! The sun dips lower. The shade grows larger. It's cooler now; perfect place. Yes, he wants a taste. Got him caught! Pulling against the rolling current- Finally on the bank. Supper! Nothing better- Unless you count the watch And of course the wait. |
