About the Poem

My husband and I have known much grief together, from the death of a child, to many other things. This poem speaks of the innocence of our youth, when we still didn't know such sorrows were ahead of us. But we still have each other's deep love, and that holds us together, along with our faith.

There Was A Time

When the wind sang to me
Of winter snows, dancing fir trees;
Of exotic spices and rolling foreign seas;
Of dreams beneath down comforters,
Safe in your arms all night long.
When we knew no sorrow
Could ever engulf us
With its wrong.

There was a time
When the wind whispered
Stories of the way breezes move
The surface of the water; of fairies and
Magic spells, of youth and hope; of ancient
Secrets; of lilting melodies, enchanting rhyme.
And eternity floated easily ahead of us,
Pure, and untarnished by time,
While we lay together,
Knowing.

There was a time

Powerful, words, meaning and emotion. Your poem touched something deep in me.

I could sense the author's pining for the days before their lives were jaded by hardship and tragedy. A beautiful poem that would touch anyone who longs for the simply times as we had when we were young. Dina
