About the Poem

This short poem describes the many different feelings that bombarded me on the day of my wedding.

Being a newlywed, as I look back on all of the preparations for the wedding and the havoc on that day, it would seem to me that all of the physically exhausting work done could not prepare me emotionally for the profound feelings that rushed through me. It is difficult to grip emotions that change so drastically from one extreme to another.

Finally, I can now see the humor in the utterly ridiculous way that we prepare for a slight moment in time when we utter just two words.

The Day

It’s not cold yet you're shaking.
You alternate feelings of love and depression.
The hustle around you is surely unnerving.
A myriad of feelings,
I've named just a few.

All for one day that begins with "Oh no!"
and ends with "I do!"
