About the Poem

I wrote this poem one day after looking in the mirror and seeing my dad. That's great - except I'm a woman.

Heredity And Good-Ole-Dad

Heredity is very strange
It's quite a peculiar creature
Attaching itself to you
Determining the look of every feature
The color of your eyes
How long you'll keep your hair
Or if you must reach for glasses
Which never seem to be there
Will your body be built like a champion
Or will you suffer from defeat
It decides everything about you
From your head down to your feet
I'm sure someone has said
You look just like your father
And five minutes later
You look just like your mother
Maybe you've even been told
You look like neither one
You see, it all depends
Which side of the family they are from
But ask me and I'll say
I'm just like good- ole- dad
I seem to have inherited it all
The good things and the bad

I laughed when i read this poem. It really speaks of somthing of real life. I mean I for one, couldn't even make out who i take after, since some people would say i have my mums look while others say I take after my dad in some ways. But I guess what is special is that whatever part of mum or dad you take after, Just be grateful that You had them to be there for you all along and always as your parents. Truly inspirational. cheers.

THE POEM WAS NICE AND ALITTLE HUMOROUS. ALOT OF PEOPLE SAY THAT I LOOK JUST LIKE MY DAD. I DON'T SEE IT BUT THATS WHAT EVERYONE SAYS.

THANK YOU FOR SUCH A LOVELY POEM, I AM SENDING IT TO MY DAUGHTER WHO TOO LOOKS LIKE HER DAD. SHE IS A COLLEGE STUDENT AND HAS SOME TOUGH CHOICES AT TIMES AND THIS POEM WILL MAKE HER SMILE.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your poem. I think you really hit the mark for alot of people. But more so, that you found the words to say what I think alot of us think and feel. And did so in simple terms(but not so simple that it would turn a person away). Thanks again, keep up the good works.
