About the Poem

Growing up with some pretty awful things that happened, I wrote this and repeated it to myself over and over again, until I made myself believe it.

Endure

If I can endure for this moment,
whatever is happening to me.
No matter how heavy my heart,
or how dark the moment may be.
If I can but keep on believing,
what I know in my heart to be true.
Then darkness will fade into morning,
and with this dawn a new day, too.

I've just lost my husband of 35 years. This poem tells me that pain and darkness will pass with the dawn of a new day. On the day he left this life, it was a beautiful dawn as I left the hospital and I truly believe it was him saying, 'Look Pen, I may not be able to touch you but I'm everso close and look at the sunrise I ordered for you'. I will repeat this poem over and over. It's exactly as it says. No matter the pain & darkness, a bright new day will dawn. Miss you, my beloved Chris. xxx

I LOVED THIS POEM BECAUSE AS PEAPLE WE FACE DIFFICULT SITUATIONS AND TRIBULATIONS. ONE IS ABLE TO LIVE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT EVERY THING HAPPENS FOR A REASON.

This is just what I needed to read right now. I didn't know this website existed; I came here seeking comfort, and your poem gave that to me. Thank you so much! I am trying to memorize it so I can say it to myself whenever I need it. You are a great poet, and I am so glad I found your poem! Keep writing them!

My friend has just been diagnosed with cancer. We get the results of whether it is treatable or not tomorrow. We have been friends for 35yrs and have grown up and brought our children up together. We are both frightened. I have given her this poem tp take to the hospital with her. We needed something, Thankyou.

I really like this poem as it inspires me and sums up how I'm feeling right now, and the emotions of two of my family members who are currently battling with injustice so I have passed this on to them to read. Well done
