About the Poem

This is how I felt at Valentines' eve this year. Cupid played a game with my poetic heart and so I created this with his silver arrows - it tell of a love for a man this woman can never have. This woman is me.

If

If I could write the most perfect love poem for you
I would create it in honor of your eyes
And give it to you as a Valentine!

If I could write a new song of songs
I would create it in the honor of your hair,
Long and blowing in heavenly winds

If I could create the stars, the moon, and the sun
Once again in my own form
And give them to you in a shiny bejeweled sky of gold and silver
I would give them to you in honor of your soul

If I could create a new pink rose
I would create it in honor of your skin
Which I love to feel beneath my hands

If I could touch my finger into your tears
I would create more rivers and seas
And create them in the honor of your heart
This I would do in honor of you, my beloved

If I could paint a picture of your smile
As you look at me with a kiss to give
I would hang it in the hall of my mind for you are to me divine

If I did not have you to love me, I would surely die.
