About the Poem

There is a time in a relationship when we all begin to wonder if it will last or if it will simply fade as the once green leaves which fall brown and void of life. It is the urge to hold on to the romance and the thrill of love and sometimes feeling that the end is inevitable.

Brown

She sees the falling leaves outside her open window
And realizes she can't slow them down
So many years of love simply fading . . .
She asks will you catch me when I turn brown

The twilight’s last gleaming, where is it that it goes
Tonight she counts the stars wondering how long they’ll glow
Everything must end she sighs turning slowly from me
As she watches those same stars fall and disappear into the sea

Do you believe, she pauses, believe that we can be
More than just a glimmer on the pages of eternity
She smiles, you know if love could hold back time . . .
We'd live forever, never brown, forever you'd be mine
