This poem is about two people breaking up but one still has feelings for the other and what the words "I love you" mean.

Love

You said the words I love you,
But it is obvious things have changed.
I said the words I love you,
And my feelings are still the same.
You said I'll love you forever,
But forever wasn't long enough.
I said I'll love you always,
And I'll mean it forever.
But I can not imply to you
What that means,
'Cause your version of Forever
Isn't what it seems,
And my version of Always
Seems like an unrealistic dream.

My girlfriend just broke up with me, and we had made the promises mentioned in the poem. I told her I'd love her forever and I meant it, but obviously she didn't. Your poem puts into words a lot of what I am feeling, and that's why I like it.

Wonderful and so touching. I loved a girl with all my heart and she pledged me her "Love for Eternity". But her Eternity meant "Till it was convenient for her" and I was her hit and run till she found some one ! I really enjoyed your poem. This is one of the few poems I can truelly relate to. My boyfriend, well ex told me the exact same things. We were together 8 long months, off and on for 2 1/2 years. I thought we were meant to be and he promised that he loved me and would never leave me and that he never has and never will cheat on me. At one time I almost believed everything he told me. I guess it's true what they say, "Almost doesn't count."
