About the Poem

Inspired by the treatment of Jews and other minorities by the Nazi's in WW2, a mixture of English and German to achieve the desired effect

Sacrifice By Fire

Deutschland, Deutschland, über alles,
Words, cold, heartless, callous,
Kristallnacht, Aryanization,
Deeds, actions, beyond explanation.

Ausweis, Ausweis, alles einordnen,
Auschwitz, Dachau, Bergen-Belsen,
Jew, Slav, Gypsy, Gay,
Yesterday here, gone today.

ARBEIT MACHT FREI,
Words, false hope, vicious lie,
You, life, meaningless here,
Gestapo, Einsatzgruppen, Bundeswehr.

Ghetto, cattle truck, camp, shower,
Goering, Final Solution, abuse of power,
In line, naked, morning frost,
Sacrifice by fire; Holocaust.

this poem really touched me. i really like the creativity of the German and english combined. there is no sign of racism people just want us to know what happened back then so that we can prevent it from happening again. whoever wrote this poem should write more because he/she has a way with explaining themselves and the facts that they are presenting. i really like this poem it is one of my favorites. --amber

this poem touched me with its simpleness. it doesnt seem like hes trying to bring up the past. he juz wants us to remember the mistakes so they dont happen again. no racism or bigotry here
