About the Poem

My family has always traveled throughout my childhood. Two years ago we were on another western vacation. We camped in a small town in Wyoming. The two nights that we were there, I laid out on the grass and watched the night sky. I love to look at a star filled sky and the skies I saw those nights were incredible.

If you've never been to Wyoming, the trees aren't more than 6 or 7 feet high and when you lay down on the ground, it's like the earth swallows you and all you see is sky. It's breath taking. I didn't write this poem, however, until this past year.

Wyoming Nights

As I lay on a cushion of green,
I watch the night sky
Drops of crystal fall into my eyes,
wiping away my thoughts

A large dome covers my body,
seeming as if I have been taken
captive in a glass jar

My keeper is the stars.
