About the Poem

This poem is a product of a song I heard that touched me very much. The song is called "Watch the Lamb". I thought about that song and then tried to place myself at the foot of the cross where my Lord and Savior died.

Once For All

Here I stand at the foot of the cross
and behold a tragic sight.
I watch with horror in my heart
as day turns into night.

A man with nail- pierced hands and feet;
crown of thorns upon his brow,
His body so striped and bloody,
what more could they do now?

Lamb of God, Son of Man, Messiah,
God's only Son.
I look at all those gathered here;
My God, what have we done?

A sense of shame pervades my soul,
"He's innocent! " I cry.
What can I do to save the Lamb
who died for such as I?

The crowd hurls insults at the man,
derision in their cry:
"Son of God! King of the Jews!
Come Down, let's see you try. "

But Jesus, He stayed on that cross,
Compassion in His eye;
"Forgive them Father, for they know not! "
was his impassioned cry.

A righteous God; He had a plan,
for death was the demand.
As Satan had filled this world with sin
and infected all of man.

With Love, such Love, He sent His Son
To Earth for Him to die;
To redeem the lost, the sinful, and yes,
to rescue you and I!

This story has not ended yet,
He conquered death and sin.
And Satan, well he has no hope,
'cause He'll fight him and He'll win!

Wow, this poem is so cool. You've brought out the crucifixion in such a cool way. So innocent, yet He died for the guilty. The compassion upon that Cross touches my heart deep within. Thank you for this inspirational poem. The Lord is so very gracious.
