About the Poem

Haven't we all been denied love? Denied the acceptance or even acknowledgement of our existence. Sure, we've all said "Oh, she doesn't even know I'm alive!" But what about a child, denied the love of her father, the one who gave her life? Where is she to turn?

Daddy's Indifference

I thought I saw the child in you, Daddy.
Don't you know what it's like to be all alone?

I got my first bike today.
Oh, the stitches in my mouth...I'll be okay

And did you know,
I really like Patsy Cline.

About what that man did to me, Daddy..
Don't you worry, I'll be strong.

You never told me that not everyone would like me, Daddy.
But, I guess I should have learned that from you

this poem reminds me so much of my youngest daughtr. she is now 20 and married but she spent her entire life knowing that her real father never loved her and allowed someone to take her innocence away at the age of 6 years old while visiting him for rhe weekend. I wish I could take her hurt away but all me and her step father van do is love her like her biological father never has i read alot of poems but this one brought tears to my eyes. I am not sure if the poem was meant to be the way I took it and if it wasn't then I am sorry but I have to congradulate you because you wrote a poem for my daughter without ever meeting her
